Paramount Restores The African Queen To Seaworthiness For Its Blu-Ray Release
The snazzy restored edition of The African Queen hit Blu-ray and DVD this week, and Paramount is eager to show off all the work they did to bring the presentation up to snuff. They've sent along several before-and-after stills to show off the much-improved picture, and an eight-minute "Restoring The African Queen" featurette that includes interviews with Martin Scorsese, Nicholas Meyer, and more.
Directed by John Huston, The African Queen is a classic tale of adventure and romance starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn at their very best. Bogie is hard-drinking riverboat captain Charlie Allnut (in the role that won him an Academy Award). Hepburn is straight-laced missionary Rose Sayer. After fate throws them together in WWI-era east Africa, they set out to destroy a German gunboat using only pluck and banter.
