GTA 5 PC Delayed, System Requirements Released

GTA 5's PC version won't be out this month after all. Rockstar announced today that they're pushing back the PC release further into 2015.

GTA 5 is now slated to launch on PC on March 24th. This delay wasn't entirely unexpected. Many PC gamers noticed Rockstar's lack of announcements about the version as we approached the previous January 27th release date. When a game of that size is close to launch, the publisher's usually carpet-bombing us with screenshots, details and trailers. Silence is almost always a bad thing.

What is surprising, though, is that Rockstar specifically reassured us last week that there wasn't a delay.

“GTAV will be coming to PC on January 27th," the studio said on the Rockstar Support forum. "We have not announced any changes to this date at this time.”

The second sentence in that statement, in retrospect, sounds like they were giving themselves a little wiggle room. It's also possible, though, that whoever wrote that forum wasn't aware of the delay. I suppose it doesn't matter either way. The point is: GTA 5's PC version has been delayed and that blows.

Perhaps to balance out the suckiness of the delay, Rockstar finally revealed some details about the PC version. For example, here are the system requirements:

Minimum:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
  • HDD Space: 65GB
  • DVD Drive

Recommended:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1

  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible

If you've got a high-end machine, you'll be able to push GTA 5's visuals to new heights. Rockstar says that the PC version can run at 1080p and 60fps with up to 4K resolution. It also supports triple monitor setups and NVIDIA 3D Vision.

As previously revealed, GTA 5 PC comes with new movie-making tools as well. Today's announcement says that this "Rockstar Editor" provides "a full suite of editing tools to create and publish gameplay clips direct to both Social Club and YouTube." That's great news for the community of players intent on recreating movie scenes within the game.

The studio also released a few screenshots from the PC version. You can check them out in the gallery below.
