Four of the main females featured in The Witcher 3 are now playable in the game thanks to a new mod. The mod allows players to choose to switch out Geralt from being the main playable character to either Triss Merigold, Yennefer the sorceress, Ciri the apprentice or Shani.

Polygon linked to a video showing the mod in action, running at 4K resolution and one of the additional mods in play that allows players to bring a companion along with them for the adventure. Check it out below.

The Witcher 3 is designed by Nexus Mods user ParKan11. The mod is fairly large, totaling close to 40MB if you decide to download all of the character files. Individually, each of the characters are between 9MB and 11MB. It enables players to swap out Geralt for Triss, Yennefer, Ciri, or Shani. The mod maker notes that this was tested on version 1.11 on Steam. So take note of that when considering installing the mod.

There are certain armor sets that don't work with these characters that were released as DLC for The Witcher 3, including the Nilfgaardian armor, the Temerian armor and Skellige sets. Also, as noted by Polygon and on the mod page, the characters still retain Geralt's voice, movements and combat animations. So it's still Geralt in everything but looks.

The only way to alter the voices it would require someone to completely re-record all the lines with a female voice. It's completely doable but an extremely taxing and difficult task. However, even during the normal game it's still possible to play as Ciri in some segments scattered throughout the game, so part of the work was already done by the developers themselves.

Nevertheless, the mod allows players to customize each of the characters as they see fit. There are different hair and clothing options available for the four playable females. Using the Witcher 3's console commands, players are able to alter things such as hair-styles, hats, hair color, hoods, armor sets and more.

Aside from the voice and animations, the mod appears to work quite well, giving gamers a whole new way to experience the world of CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3. The game itself has been talked about quite a bit around the gaming circles as the Game of the Year for 2015.

The sprawling world depicted in the novels was brought to life by Polish gaming studio CD Projekt Red, and they've been reaping the rewards all year long for pumping out a high-quality game with equally high-quality DLC for home consoles and PC.

If you want to spice up your adventures in The Witcher 3 by playing as one of four different characters in the game, you can download each of the files for the game from over on Nexus Mods.
