Oh. My. Gosh. I can’t believe one of the coolest trailers of the year comes courtesy of Namco Bandai’s Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. The 12 minute featurette is a mix of in-game play and cinematic sequences to make up for one wicked sweet ride, chock full of awesome camera work and explosive action-packed gameplay.

While the continuous bombardment of pre-scripted, over-the-top Hollywood cut-scenes and Michael Bay 'Splosions™ in first-person shooters have sort of worn thin over the years, the transference of that same concept into an aerial flight sim seems to be remarkably ingenious. Even if you’re not a fan of flight simulators the following “The Dawning Skies” videos will easily make you a believer of the genre. The two trailers come courtesy of GameTrailers and you can check them out below.

Totally awesome, right? We don’t have a review up of this game yet but it looks like the developers took a lot of what worked for the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and adapted it to the Ace Combat series. In my opinion I’m completely sold on the idea. I think this is also one of those ideas that really needed to happen in a different genre to mix up a little bit of the monotony we’ve been experiencing in the gaming industry as of late.

While the coolest game trailers of 2011 awards aren’t set to happen until the end of the year, I think it’s safe to say that “The Dawning Skies” is more than likely going to walk away as the victor.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is already available at local retailers for the Xbox 360 and PS3 for $59.99. Need more info? Feel free to visit the Official Website.
