Assassin's Creed Rogue Trailer Hunts For Assassins

Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Assassin's Creed Rogue, the upcoming open-world game set within the Assassin's Creed universe. Unlike previous games in the entry, this new game focuses on the opposite side of the war, putting players in the role of a Templar instead of championing the identity of the Assassin.

The game has players assuming the role of Shay Cormac, a Scottish Assassin who felt betrayed by the order and decided to leave and join the Templar... Templar he once fought against. The story will see players journeying with Shay across multiple locations, battling out on the sea, hunting animals and exploring the wild arctic.

In the latest promotional video we get more of Cormac's story as well as a look at some of the different locations he'll be visiting. Most notably is his encounter with an enemy Assassin. One of the things I'm curious about is whether or not Assassins will be treated like fodder-bait, bosses or actual Assassins?

In previous games it always seemed like Ubisoft had a dumb-downed A.I., to accommodate the ease of play. However, in making the game so much more easy and accessible for a wide audience I felt it completely stripped away from the lore that they had established in the game's universe. The Templar players had to face down against were always as weak as well water. It was impossible to find them challenging or remotely threatening.

Throughout the games this has been a general problem for the series. It was also an issue that occurred when the roles were reversed and Edward Kenway somehow managed to best an Assassin with ease at the beginning of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, which sent a cringe up and down my face. It felt like such a dissonant betrayal of the game's own mythos.

Anyway, I'm hoping that for Rogue they don't treat the Assassins like fodder for Shay. In the brief cut-scene we see that Shay and another Assassin go full-on in a fight in a small room. It reminded me a little bit of the battle between the two angels in The Prophecy. From that small clip it did seem as if they made it more evenly matched and that gives me hope that Ubisoft will stay consistent with their portrayal of the Assassins in Rogue.

Already, Pete Haas made it known that this Xbox 360 and PS3 exclusive is looking a lot more attractive than Assassin's Creed Unity, and I couldn't agree more.

The only trouble is that the game that looks more fun to play will be relegated to the old and aging consoles from the seventh generation. A realm shame.

You can look to purchase Assassin's Creed Rogue beginning November 11th. Need more info? Check it out at the official website.
