PC gamers won't miss out on the next face-off between Dracula and the Belmont clan. Konami Digital Entertainment revealed today that they're preparing a Windows version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.
The PC edition of Lords of Shadow 2 is expected to arrive at the same time as its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts. Mercury Steam, developer of the first Lords, is handling all three versions. Hopefully that will prevent the PC from receiving a shoddy port - an all-too-familiar occurrence.
The first Lords of Shadow, which wasn't released on the PC, introduced the legendary vampire Dracula. It also revealed how he was connected to the Belmonts, a family of vampire-hunters. In Lords 2, Dracula is the main character. He learns of a new threat that endangers the world and must regain his previous strength in order to defeat it. He'll also have to keep the Belmonts at bay.
Lords of Shadow 2 will be powered by Mercury Steam's proprietary Mercury Engine 2. Expect large open-world maps and a diverse cast of characters. I imagine it'll be at least slightly prettier than the first game, too.
"Castlevania: Lords of Shadow successfully rebooted the franchise but now we want to go further and exceed people’s expectations on what to expect from the sequel,” said producer Dave Cox. “This new game tells a much broader tale and one that spans centuries. It is a game that pushes whatever format it is on to the absolute limit, and we are delighted that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2’s rich blend of first-class fighting, deep exploration and rich storytelling are set to delight and enthrall PC users, too. There’s a darkness coming and with our new game engine, we hope to deliver something truly special across multiple formats that will set new standards for action adventure games."
Lords 2, announced prior to this year's E3 with a CGI trailer, is scheduled for a 2013 release.
