Destiny's Honest Trailer Lampoons The Game's Shortcomings

Love it or hate it, people can't stop talking about Bungie's Destiny because of three things: First, it's the same company that brought us Halo. Second, the brand cost Activision $500 million to produce. Third, it's kind of everywhere and people can't help but talk about something that's everywhere. Given all the conversations taking place around the net about Destiny (for better or for worse) you just have to leave it to Smosh Games to come out with an Honest Trailer for the shooter title that seems to have trouble living up to being an MMO or an FPS.

The three minute and 45 second trailer lampoons Destiny from start to finish with an honest take on the game that most people saw coming a mile away. The biggest issue brought out is that the game doesn't start getting “fun” until the loot grind is put into place at level 20. The game's “fun” is then compromised given that the entire game from then on is all about RNG grind-fest.

Additionally, if you thought that the game would be saved by its story, think again. Bungie has come under fire quite often for pimping the story for Destiny but it ultimately found itself being criticized in the reviews for being lackluster and underwhelming... dragged down further along by accomplished actor Peter Dinklage in his uninspired turn as an uninterested, robot-sidekick.

Gaming Blend's own Pete Haas expressed his misgivings about the game in his Destiny review, praising the small flashes of entertainment amongst a generally dull experience, something that the Honest Trailer seems to bring up rather frequently in an overly harsh but ironically honest way.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Gaming Blend's own Ryan Winslett actually came to the defense of Destiny, praising it for its take on the MMO genre and giving gamers a replayable experience through the grind itself. It's something that makes sense in the context of people who enjoy the game for that very reason, and ultimately, it boils down to personal preference.

I can understand how some people might be addicted, attracted and entertained by what Destiny has to offer, but Smosh's Honest Trailer basically reaffirms a lot of what made the game come across as unappealing.

Even still, Activision made back their bank on the game through their sell-ins to retailers and Bungie is already prepping with a boatload of DLC to help flesh out the game.

Destiny is currently available and still being talked about even if it's frequently not in the best of light. You can learn more about the game by paying a visit to the official website.. even though the Honest Trailer actually sums everything you need to know about the game.
