Lacey Chabert is living the dream over at Hallmark, not only for the fact that she actually got to live at Disney World for a month while filming her upcoming Christmas movie, but because she’s been traveling the world for the new Hallmark+ series Paris Is Always a Good Idea. Things aren’t too bad for her character, either, as Chesea has embarked on a journey to reconnect with three of her past loves. I figured that couldn’t have made her co-star Scott Michael Foster all too pleased, so I decided to ask him how mad he was about having so many romantic rivals.
Paris Is Always a Good Idea is a book-to-screen adaptation of Jenn McKinlay’s novel in which Chelsea begrudgingly finds herself in Paris with her colleague Jason Knightly (Scott Michael Foster). Then, a sign from her late mother sends her jet-setting to Ireland, Spain and back to France in the name of potential love. What a disservice this does to Knightly, who should seemingly be well into a tried-and-true enemies-to-lovers story by now. And he probably would be, if not for those three meddling ex-boyfriends! So just how mad is he? Foster told me:
I’m not mad at all! I mean listen, what’s the saying? ‘Competition feeds innovation?’ Something like that? I don’t know, we’ll say that’s what it was. It’s something close to that. You know, it keeps Knightly on his toes, right? At parts of the show, he doesn’t like having the competition, but I think he has to step up his game.
In the latest episode “Sebastian Revisited,” which hit the 2026 TV schedule on August 6, we do see a bit of warmth starting to brew between Chelsea and Knightly. That’s in spite of the fact that, as the title suggests, Chelsea is able to get in touch with her old photographer beau Sebastian — the second of her three “what ifs” from a decade earlier.
Most Hallmark leads like Lacey Chabert’s character would have, at most, two guys to choose between. But thanks to Paris Is Always a Good Idea’s six episodes, Chelsea’s got time to explore four different options — in some of the most romantic locations around the world, I might add. Where do I sign up?
Scott Michael Foster has a great attitude about it, too. He knows if Knightly wants to be the one with Chelsea at the end of it all, he’s got to prove why he’s the one who’s best for her and not her lovers from Ireland, France or Spain.
I’m excited to see how Knightly fares against the competition. For as much fun as I’m having with the love story, though, I was surprised by how much the premiere episode focused on grief. It turns out that’s an important part of Chelsea’s story, and it makes all the stakes that much higher on this quest across Europe.
