The third episode of Telltale's Game of Thrones adventure game is available now. "The Sword in the Darkness" has debuted on consoles and PC with other platforms to come.
Episode 3 continues the story of House Forrester. This northern house has found itself in the middle of the War of the Five Kings. They don't have the strength to contend with the other major powers in Westeros so the members of the house have to tread carefully or risk losing everything. Here's the official synopsis of this episode, courtesy of Telltale:
In Episode 3, the exiled Asher Forrester heads to Mereen in search of an army to take on the Whitehills. Meanwhile, far across land and sea in Westeros, Mira Forrester must deal with the lethal politics of King's Landing. Her family's safety is paramount and she will do anything to protect them, but nothing is given freely, and her choice of allies may soon come to haunt her. To the north, in Ironrath, the Whitehill occupation continues. Gryff Whitehill, fourth-born son, is out to prove himself, and brutality and violence grows daily, pushing the Forresters to make far-reaching decisions. Finally, at the Wall, Gared Forrester learns that he must head north if he is to help his house survive. But fate is cruel, forcing choices that will change his path forever.
The game bounces between these different characters throughout the episode. Each will be confronted with hard decisions that could have life-or-death consequences. Their actions also have ramifications on the other playable characters. House Forrester's trials and tribulations aren't seen in the HBO show - or the A Song of Ice and Fire novels - so it's anyone guess how it all turns out.
Episode 3's screenshots show that Cersei, Jon Snow, Margaery Tyrell and Tyrion will all appear in the episode. Each is voiced by the actor that plays them on the show. Tyrion's shown in chains with guards on either side of him, so I guess Episode 3 takes place after a pivotal moment from Season 4 of the show. The bigger bombshell, though, is the screenshot of a dragon.
"The Sword in the Darkness" is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Mac and PC. The mobile version of the game will arrive on iOS and Android tomorrow.
