Seems like you can't go one day in the video game newsin' business without some company lobbing statistics at you. This is a pretty impressive stat, though - Bungie announced today that one billion matches of Halo 3 have been played worldwide as of Saturday.
The billionth match, according to Bungie.net's announcement, was a three minute and nineteen second game of Infection on Foundry. I hope the players were covered in an avalanche of balloons and confetti when the match launched.
Bungie further calculated that if the total playtime for every individual player was added up, it would total 2,023,153,340,764 seconds or 64,109 years. All pretty mind-boggling, but it makes me wonder what the stats for World of Warcraft are. I mean we're talking 11.5 million subscribers, some of whom play upwards of forty hours a week. Someone at NASA's probably crunching those numbers as we speak.
