The weeks leading up to E3 have traditionally been the birthplace of many a crazy rumor or hoax. Today, right on schedule, a supposed video of Halo 4 gameplay footage hit the Internet.

As you might expect, the footage is recorded with an off-center camcorder. However, this video goes one further: the footage that the camcorder is filming is from a VHS tape. The icing on the cake is the terrible, terrible music accompanying it. Just turn your speakers off in advance, because you can't hear anything from the game itself.

There are three possibilities here. One is that someone is trying to troll Halo fans. The second, less likely scenario is that the only person in the world willing and able to leak Halo 4 multiplayer footage has shit taste in music and can't operate a camera. The third possibility is that he knows how much everyone wants to see more Halo 4 so he's done everything to make this video as irritating as possible.

Perhaps we'll see more polished footage of the Halo 4's online modes during E3. 343 Industries announced the multiplayer game modes earlier this month, which seems like a sign that an official video of online play isn't far behind.
