Dark Horse and BioWare have decided to promote the upcoming book Art of the Mass Effect Universe in an interesting way. Pre-ordering the book will earn you a download code for free Mass Effect 3 DLC.
"From 1/23/12 - 2/20/12, when you pre-order a copy of The Art of Mass Effect Universe, you will receive a code to download extra game content for Mass Effect 3 on either PC or Xbox 360. This will include the collector's rifle, among other cool content to beat out your opponents," reads the book's listing on Barnes and Noble.
That's right, PS3 owners can't get this bonus content. If you recall, the same is true of the DLC included with Mass Effect action figures. Boo, hiss, etc. Feel free to once again blame Microsoft. It might not actually be their fault but Internet rage doesn't need to be rational.
Art of the Mass Effect Universe is a 184-page hardcover book with concept art of the game's characters, locations, vehicles, and weapons. The art is accompanied by commentary by the development team. A few samples are below, along with the cover art. The book is priced at $39.99, but is currently being offered at a 33% discount.
The release date of the book is listed as February 21st. You'll receive the DLC code and instructions on how to redeem it via e-mail no later than March 8th. Mass Effect 3, meanwhile will be out on March 6th in North America and on the 9th in Europe.
