The New Xbox Experience has brought some shiny new features but to paraphrase Notorious B.I.G., "Mo' console interface features, mo' technical issues." Since NXE launched a couple weeks back, several gamers have encountered problems trying to run the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI on their Xbox 360.
According to a post on NeoGAF, players have been recently unable to load the PlayOnline Viewer, the program through which players log onto FFXI. Something about NXE just doesn't play nice with the program. NXE allows players to download games to their hard drive to speed up load times but FFXI already required an HDD installation before NXE so it's possible this is causing the conflict.
Microsoft's support site now has an article devoted to the issue which recommends you uninstall and then reinstall the PlayOnline Viewer. If that doesn't work, there's a couple threads on Allakhazam and Xbox.com where gamers have been trading remedies. Truth be told, people who actually play the game would be a better source of solutions than a humble game journo.
