5PB and 7Sixty has released a new trailer for the upcoming side-scrolling beat-e'm-up designed in the vein of sprite-based fighters from the 32-bit PSX era. The new trailer gives gamers plenty of Castle Crashers-style fighting and lots of baddies getting their butts handed to them on a silver platter.

Phantom Breaker has managed to rekindle some of the classic 2D, sprite-based fighting love that many fighting fans fell in love with during the competitive era of SNK versus Capcom during the 1990s. While the genre has basically faded into obscurity save for an odd King of Fighters release or little known titles like Skull Girls, 5PB's Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds is still aiming to keep the sprite fighters alive for console gamers (or Xbox 360 gamers at least) with their co-op beat e'm up. The all-female cast of chibi-style heroes will probably draw the ire of some groups who don't like it one way or another, but I'm just glad it's not another first-person shooter.

The game is scheduled to release sometime at some point for the Xbox 360. No word on an official release date yet. Still, keep your eyes peeled on the Marketplace for the game to pop up at an Xbox Live near you.
