Resogun Gets Two Major Updates

Resogun was one of the PlayStation 4’s first big hits, offering gorgeous graphics and lightning-fast twin stick shooting action from day one. The game has seen a few updates over the past year, but none as big as a pair of DLC packs arriving within the next week, “Defenders” and “Challengers.”

First up is Resogun’s Challengers pack, which is releasing a lot sooner and for a lot less money than you may have expected. By that I mean that it’s available as a free update starting today.

According to a recent post from XDEV Producer Ian Pickles, Resogun needs to be updated in order to prepare it for the meaty Defenders update that’s heading our way. As an added bonus, the team decided to throw the Challengers pack in for all to enjoy at no extra cost. Just boot up your copy of Resogun starting today and the update will automatically download. Once it’s done, the Challengers content will be included just for the heck of it.

Pickles calls the Challengers update the largest to date for Resogun, offering a new leveling system that rewards the completion of challenges and feats across all game modes.

“Challenges task you with playing a specific level or game mode with different rules or modifiers designed to provide a new challenge,” Pickles explained. “Can you rescue 200 humans in a single level if every enemy drops one or, better yet, can you complete survival mode using the Super Stardust Ship?”

Complete challenges like this and you’ll unlock new rewards and move up the ranks. The Challengers update also includes a Human Gallery for seeing the different types of survivors you’ve picked up, as well as a Photo Mode that lets you more easily pause the game and snap some crazy shots.

Again, that’s all free, and it’s available now.

Next Tuesday, Feb. 17, you’ll be able to grab the other big update, Defenders, for $4.99 or as part of the game’s Season Pass. If you thought the Survivors pack was pretty cool, then you’ll really dig all of the new content being packed into what is being touted as the last bit of DLC for the game.

Along with a new set of trophies and locations, you’ll be able to dive into two new game modes. First is the Protector mode, letting you defend humanity with a brand new set of power-ups, a game-changing “flip” mechanic and new enemies, like the volcanic meteors.

And then there’s the Commando mode, which really changes the gameplay around. As a Commando, you’ll play as a human survivor, shooting enemies out of the sky with your minigun.

It’s a pretty great time to be a fan of the twin stick shooter genre on the PlayStation 4. The new Geometry Wars dropped last month and Super Stardust Ultra arrived just yesterday. Today, you get a free update for Resogun and even more content next week. Happy shooting!
