Since it’s a modern shooter and all, I suppose we should have seen this news coming: EA today announced that Star Wars Battlefront will boast a season pass for post-launch DLC.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Star Wars Battlefront, including the launch of the games open beta, an extension of said beta, and now the announcement that DICE’s update on the beloved series will offer a season pass for folks who want to save a few bucks on the traditional crop of DLC.

Going live on the Battlefront blog, the announcement explains that gamers have plenty of additional content to look forward to after Star Wars goes live next month.
We’re also excited to announce the Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass, which extends the game with four expansion packs coming at a later date, filled with new content that will take you to new locations across a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass owners will also secure two-week early access to each expansion pack and an exclusive ‘Shoot First’ emote.

It looks like EA is coming up with some new ways to add value to season pass plans, as you’re basically asking folks to fork over money for content they don’t really know anything about. So on top of saving some money by buying all of the DLC nice and early, you’ll earn early access to said content and a special emote. So long as they don’t try to sell us a few emotes for $20 *cough*Destiny*cough*, it’s hard to complain about additional perks.

With all of those details revealed, it should also come as no surprise that EA has gone ahead and announced a Star Wars Battlefront Ultimate Edition. Similar to what they’ve done with other games, the publisher is packaging the core game with the season pass already attached. So if you’re planning on picking up Battlefront and figure you’ll probably get all of the DLC, too, you might as well snag one of these Ultimate Editions and save yourself a future transaction. No price has been announced for the season pass or the Ultimate Edition of Battlefront yet but, assuming EA sticks to the norm, you’re probably looking at an additional 20 to 30 bucks here.

So, given what we know about Battlefront so far, what are you hoping to see out of those four planned DLC packs. New maps are a given, but where would you like to see the conflict head next? Fingers crossed on a few extra game modes and solo missions, too.

Speaking of Star Was, the new movie is due out in just a couple of months. Wouldn’t it be rad if at least one of the new DLC packs dropping in the next year boasts locations from The Force Awakens?
