If you're a Star Wars fan, you've probably watched the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens way too many times. However, you should really check out this gamer's detailed recreation of the trailer within Grand Theft Auto 5.
The lack of futuristic vehicles in GTA 5 hurts the recreation a bit. Creator Powerlight-13 had to swap in an ATV for a landspeeder and fighter jets for X-Wings. The Millenium Falcon is a Miljet while the TIE Fighters attacking it are Black Vestras. The volleyball-shaped droid is now just a volleyball.
Still, Powerlight-13 nailed a lot of other important parts of the video. He managed to edit in the three-pronged red lightsaber as well as green lasers from the "TIE Fighters." The white body armor and masks from GTA 5 are a decent substitute for the Imperial stormtrooper armor. Here's the original version of the trailer for basis of comparison:
We've seen a lot of impressive movie recreations from GTA 5 players in the last year. Some of the best reenactments include the opening from Skyfall, the truck chase in Terminator 2 and The Purge: Anarchy's trailer. It's incredible how much time and effort players have poured into tributes to their favorite films.
Once the PC version of GTA 5 comes out, we'll see even more accurate recreations of this and other movie trailers. That edition of the game will allow players to create mods that greatly alter the world. Modders for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 4 were able to add the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, time travel and more to that game. Don't be surprised to see an X-Wing mod or two in GTA 5 on PC.
Rockstar Games also says that the GTA 5 on PC will ship with a "video editor designed for advanced movie-making." That should help players make trailers that look just as slick as Hollywood's. I can't wait to see what they'll do with these tools.
GTA 5 is expected to launch on PC in January. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, meanwhile, will hit theaters on December 18th, 2015.
