10 Scariest Moments For The Year's Scariest Day

Don’t walk under a ladder, it’s Friday the 13th, the scariest day of the year. Or maybe like Perri, you love a good scare. In honor of the things which will be going bump tonight, she’s put together a list of the ten movie moments which scared the most crap out of her. Tell us yours, in the comments section below.

10. Jaws

If you took the audio out of a horror film, it wouldn’t be that scary anymore. It’s the screams in the opening scene of Jaws that eat away at the audience. You don’t even see the shark, but hearing the victim scream as she’s yanked around the ocean is disturbingly chilling.

9. Nightmare on Elm Street

The last thing you want to think of before going to bed at night is the image of Freddy Krueger stretching out his ten-foot-long arms in an alleyway. Well, either that or the scene where Johnny Depp is pulled through his bed and turned into a bloody geyser.

8. Jurassic Park

A movie doesn’t need to be a horror film to scare you to death. No scene makes my heart race faster than the part in Jurassic Park when Lex and Tim are trapped in the kitchen with the velociraptors. Thanks to some wiggling Jell-O and a mean silhouette I was freaked before the scene even started.

7. Misery

On to the movie that gave new meaning to the phrase: “I feel your pain,” Misery. Annie Wilkes’ way of taking care of author Paul Sheldon, who’s recovering from a car accident, is tying him to a bed and smashing his ankles with a sledgehammer. Ouch.

6. Scream

Scream took horror films to a new level. What began as a genre filled with bumps in the night and horrifying concepts became one of sheer brutality and gore. Poor Drew Barrymore. Along with boyfriend Steve, she had no hope and would be left gutless hanging from a tree.

5. Poltergeist II

Let’s put some real fear into the idea of swallowing the worm from a tequila bottle. Craig T. Nelson might think twice now before doing so because when his character in Poltergeist II took in the worm in addition to the tequila, the house poltergeist took advantage of the situation. Nelson vomits up the worm, but it’s grown immensely. After exiting his body the freakish creature wiggles out of the room.

4. The Shining

There’s nothing scarier than creepy kids and The Shining has three of them. While Danny explores the overlook hotel on his tricycle he bumps into two of the freakiest little girls and they give him a peek at their disturbing murder scene.

3. Final Destination 3

Forget the fear of cancer; I’ll never use a tanning bed again after seeing Final Destination 3. After seeing Jennifer Love Hewitt nearly burnt alive in one in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer I was skeptical, but the fiery deaths in FD3 made me think perfectly tanned skin is just not worth it.

2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Nobody would want to join Leatherface for dinner. Unfortunately, for Sally in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, she had no choice. Sally was forced to sit at the table and watch the clan eat her friends.

1. Friday the 13th

In honor of the release of Friday the 13th this week, Jason will get the top spot. No matter how many times I’ve seen the film, my heart still skips a beat when I see Jason’s decomposed body burst out of the water. Now, the big question is – will the reboot be able to top it?
