The 5 Most Popular Movies At Comic-Con, According To Twitter

There’s often a lot of chatter in the days following San Diego Comic-Con where studios (and fans) debate which movie "won" the convention. It’s usually Marvel, whose annual panel frequently dominates conversation – and social media – due to the insane amount of news or footage that Marvel President Kevin Feige likes to drop. Seeing as how Marvel sat SDCC out this year, though, there was a void that needed to be filled, and a surprising movie appears to have stepped up.

In a recently published blog post, Twitter revealed statistics tied to the social media use over the weekend, claiming that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 was the "Most Tweeted-About Movie" during the Convention. The full list is:

1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2

2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

4. Suicide Squad

5. Justice League

In a similar category, Jennifer Lawrence took the top slot in Twitter’s rankings of the "Most Tweeted-About Celebrities." Lawrence took part in two panels -- Hunger Games and X-Men: Apocalypse -- which likely boosted her visibility. But her main focus was helping to say goodbye to the franchise that made her a global sensation, and to release new

While it’s marginally surprising that The Hunger Games emerged victorious on Twitter’s ranking list, one could argue that Warner Bros. still "won" the Con, seeing as how their projects occupied three of the Top 5 slots. The high demand for the Suicide Squad trailer actually prompted the studio, and director David Ayer, to release a high-def copy of the reel… even though they weren’t happy about it. And the Batman v Superman trailer that was released shortly after the studio’s Hall H panel currently has 25 million plays on YouTube.

But don’t dare sleep on the popularity of the Hunger Games series. There’s a reason that each movie in the franchise has ranked at or near the top of the year-end box office tallies… even though they are released in November year after year. That fanbase turns out in droves to see the latest adventures of Katniss Everdeen and her growing rebellion. And with this being the finale, you can expect them to break records and set new standards. Just ask Twitter about the potential domination of Mockingjay – Part 2.
