Amazon Studios Announces Its First Three Films

You might have heard about Amazon Studios, which launched a year ago by throwing open the gates for public submissions. Since then they're received over 6,000 scripts and 600 movies vying for their attention and production money. Now, according to Deadline, the AmaStu folks have announced their first three film projects, as well as the producers who will be heading them up.

First up is Touching Blue, produced by Denise Di Novi (Crazy, Stupid, Love). The script is by Scott Mullen, and tells the story of a woman who has the ability to track people based on things that they've touched. Sounds handy, right? Unfortunately, a side effect is that actual contact with another human being causes her physical pain. Sort of like Rogue from the X-Men, only without the flying, super-strength, or white streak in her hair. The story kicks into gear when the FBI drafts her to help hunt down a serial killer.

Edward Saxon (Adaptation) will produce the science fiction/horror flick Children of Others, based on a script by the amusingly named Barrington Smith-Seetachit. It focuses on a woman who is having trouble conceiving, so consults her local fertility clinic for help. She does indeed get knocked up, but unfortunately she soon becomes convinced she's carrying an alien baby, and that it may just be the first stage of a planned invasion. Smith-Seetachit's script won the Studio's Best Script Award.

The third film is a bit unusual. Produced by Bill Gerber (Gran Torino), Original Soldiers is based on a short film created by the Amazon Studios team. They solicited pitches for the story, receiving over 1,000, and will choose a writer from those. The script is about a futuristic group of soldiers that must save the day when humanity's robotic defense force is disabled.
