Now that he's not tied to the hellish schedule of Saturday Night Live, Bill Hader has a lot more freedom to start taking on parts on new and interesting projects. He's been mixing it up on the big screen recently thanks to his voice performances in the Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs movies, and even just earned rave reviews for his more serious turn in the Sundance drama The Skeleton Twins (which has been picked up by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions), but for his first big post-SNL film it looks like Hader will be starring alongside comedienne Amy Schumer in the new comedy Trainwreck.
Judd Apatow is directing the film based on a screenplay that Schumer wrote herself, but unfortunately Variety's casting story doesn't mention what role Hader might be playing in the story. Previous reports have said that the movie was searching for actors to fill boyfriend, best friend/colleague and parent roles for the production, so perhaps the SNL star will be playing the love interest? All we know about the plot is that it follows "a basket case who tries to rebuild her life."
While this will be the first time that Hader and Schumer have worked together, the same cannot be said for the the former and Apatow.
In addition to appearing in Apatow produced comedies like Superbad, Pineapple Express, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Adventureland and Year One, Hader also had a small roles in Apatow's directorial efforts Knocked Up and This is 40.
Considering those two movies take place in the same universe, does that mean that Hader is playing the same character? Maybe it's his twin?
Coming up, Hader doesn't have a ton of live-action projects, but he has found his way into becoming one of Pixar's new favorite voice actors. In 2015 he will be lending his voice to Inside Out (the animated movie set in a teenage girl's mond) and The Good Dinosaur (the studios delayed project set in prehistoric times).
As for Trainwreck, Universal Pictures has already dated the film for July 24, 2015, so production will probably start up some time in the summer or early fall. Are you excited that Bill Hader is going to have a major role in a studio comedy? Do you think he will make a good pairing with Amy Schumer? Who do you think Apatow should cast to play the friend and the parent of Schumer's character? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
