Black Dynamite Picked Up For Distribution

There are movies that show at Sundance that are unintentionally silly, and then there are the ones that are in on the joke. That seems to be the case with Black Dynamite, a movie evoking both the blaxploitation films of the 70s and kung fu movies that debuted at the festival yesterday, and will hit theaters thanks to Sony.

The studio picked up the film, according to Variety, to the tune of $2 million, which is real money but also not so over the top the movie won't earn its money back. I haven't read any festival reviews of the movie yet, but you can see the trailer here, giving you a pretty good idea of the movie we're working with here. I'll be interested to hear from the people in the know if this will be one of those Sundance movies just weird enough to be worth everyones' time.
