Had Black Snake Moan gotten the kind of accolades it deserved, then maybe Christina Ricci would be on her way to some Oscar winner filled Jane Austen movie, instead of the next comedy from Adam Sandler. It didn’t and so HR says she’s signed on to Born to be a Star.
Co-written by Adam Sandler, the movie tells the story of a small town nerd who discovers that his low-key parents had a secret past as 70s porn stars. He then leaves his home town in Iowa for Hollywood, where he hopes to follow in their footsteps and become the biggest porn star in the world. Christina Ricci, who always sort of seems like she may have secretly done porn, will play his innocent, Iowan girlfriend. That seems all wrong. Add Born to be a Star’s producers to the list of people who haven’t seen Black Snake Moan. One look at her chained up and writhing around in a half-shirt and they’d know Ricci’s anything but innocent.
Even more interesting to me than Ricci’s casting is that this is actually being produced by a porn company. At least that’s what Miles Deep Productions appears to be. But it’s not a porn film exactly. Like Zack and Miri Make a Porno it’s a mainstream film about the porn industry. In fact it’s being purchased by Sony for distribution.
