There was a period after the last Star Wars movie when rumor was that Hayden Christensen was going to go the route of Mark Hamill and just give up on the acting thing to do something else. But, since he didn’t have a disfiguring car accident to add a little heft behind that decision, he’s been out there attempting to prove he wasn’t really as bad an actor as George Lucas made him look. It hasn’t gone well. Did you see Jumper? Probably not.

Still you’ve got to give the guy credit for trying. Aside from Jumper he’s spent a lot of his time doing smaller indie films, a great way to hone your craft after spending your formative years waving around a stick in front of a bluescreen for a guy who prefers pixels to people. His next project continues that trend by casting him in The Genesis Code, an indie thriller where he’ll play a former national security expert. Well that sounds… not at all credible. Shouldn’t former national security expert types be played by guys who don’t look like they just got their pubes in on Tuesday? Just asking.

As the press release explains it Christensen, “while investigating the murder of his only sister and her young son, discovers that a religious sect called The Shadow of the Cross may be involved. With the help of his sister’s friend Ana, they follow the clues to a clinic in the mountains of Italy, where a terrifying secret experiment has been conducted – successfully. The results are so threatening to the foundation of the Church that they will do anything to keep it from being revealed.”
