While secrecy tends to be the name of the game when it comes to comic book movies, that doesn’t seem to be the strategy being taken for Marc Webb’s upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Since the film’s first trailer debuted back in December of last year, we haven’t been able to go more than a week without seeing a new update from the film, be it a new poster, still, featurette, clip, TV spot or new theatrical trailer. Hell, we even know what Sony has planned for the franchise over the basically the next decade.

As much as we’ve already seen from the movie, however, it doesn’t compare to the preview that I got earlier this week in Las Vegas at CinemaCon, the annual convention for theater owners where studios put on huge presentations to show off footage from their biggest upcoming films. As part of their big show, Sony Pictures delivered a full 30 minutes of footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, showing off three full sequences from the movie and showcasing all kinds of action, romance and comedy. And while I’ve had my fair share of doubts about the direction of the series, I must say that I was pretty impressed by what they delivered.

As I am still in Vegas covering the expo, this episode of Hero Blend comes to you from the road, but we still have a fantastic conversation in store for you. Joe McCabe, my friend and West Coast Editor at SFX Magazine, was kind enough to come on the show this week and help me break down exactly what we got to see in the footage, and how it changed our perspectives on the blockbuster. So enjoy Hero Blend #10!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrives in theaters on May 2nd and you can catch up with everything we know about the film with our helpful guide.
