JJ Abrams Still Talking Cloverfield Sequel

It looks like JJ Abrams hasn’t given up on getting a sequel to Cloverfield done. Shortly after the monster movie’s debut in 2008 there was a great deal of sequel talk scuttlebutt, which gradually faded into vapor as the movie’s early year success was eclipsed by much bigger, summer blockbusters. But Slashfilm caught JJ at WonderCon, where he was talking something up which sounds more like a spin-off.

Abrams said, “We have an idea that we thought was pretty cool that we’re playing with, which means there will be something that’s connected to Cloverfield, but I hope it happens sooner rather than later because the idea is pretty sweet.” Could he be talking a different kind of movie filmed in the same style? Or another monster movie about a different creature in a different location? Or is he just talking out loud when he really has absolutely nothing going on? I guess we’ll have to wait for the inevitable viral marketing campaign to find out.
