James Van Der Beek Is Back!

Dawson? Dawson, is that you? Just when we thought James van der Beek had abandoned us and was going to remain a relic of the late 90s, he’s coming back to join the cast of Boy in the Box. Moviehole has the scoop but doesn’t know which role he’ll be playing; given that the movie is a drama investigating the death of a little boy, though, we probably won’t be seeing Dawson-style angst and musings.

Jon Hamm, who has won raves and a Golden Globe nomination for his role on Mad Men, stars as a police chief who tries to uncover what happened to a little boy whose mummified remains were found 50 years after his death. Josh “Not actually Matthew McConaughey” Lucas also stars, and 11-year-old Jimmy Bennett, who honest-to-God has more IMDB credits than Will Smith, plays the kid in what I guess will be flashbacks.

I can’t really make heads or tails of what this movie is about, and the fact that they cast good ol’ Dawson doesn’t indicate they’re exactly aiming for glory here.
