Brit Jason Statham may be the world's hardest working action star. Fresh from three 2011 action-thrillers (The Mechanic, Blitz, and Killer Elite--not to mention a supporting role in the action-packed, animated adventure Gnomeo & Juliet) the bad boy from London is set to take 2012 by storm with the first of three more action movies. Coming this spring is Safe, a crime-centered thriller written and directed by Remember the Titans' helmer Boaz Yakin. The gritty flick stars Statham as a former NYPD officer who puts his life at risk to save a 12-year-old girl with a photographic memory from the merciless Yakuza members, Russian mobsters and corrupt cops who want her dead. Chris Sarandon co-stars.
While the first poster for the film took a grungy graphic route that nicely alluded to the trailer's rough and tumble fight scenes, the latest poster revealed on Collider puts Statham front and center, with the promise of in-your-face violence thanks to a literally in your face and out of focus gun barrel. Statham's co-star Catherine Chan can be spotted meekly peeking out from behind her intimidating protector.
Safe will open April 27th. Then Statham fans will have to wait four whole months before the badass Brit returns to theaters to reprise the role of mercenary Lee Christmas opposite Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarznegger and Bruce Willis in The Expendables 2, which is now in production. Finally, Statham's final release of 2012, Taylor Hackford's adaption of Donald E. Westlake's crime novels, Parker will hit theaters October 12th. There Statham stars as a thief with a Robin Hood-like code to never steal from those who can't afford it.
