Lionsgate Will Distribute Kick-Ass

Matthew Vaughn's violent, ridiculous Kick-Ass is an orphan no longer. The film that wowed Comic Con audiences with just a few clips has been picked up for distribution by Lionsgate. It's a big move for a studio that has mostly made its money off cheap Tyler Perry movies and the Saw franchise, especially since, if Kick-Ass takes off, they could have an honest-to-God superhero franchise on their hands.

The deal is described merely as "big" in Variety, but it's probably safe to assume that director Vaughn, and writer of the comic book Mark Millar, are very happy today. The studio is planning to give the film a wide release in 2010.
