Manners Maven Emily Post Inspires A Romantic Comedy

It's up to you to decide whether or not Emily Post's etiquette advice is still relevant today, when holding the door open for a woman could get you glared at, and remembering which fork to use won't matter unless you manage to knock one of them off the table entirely. But Post is still a recognizable name, and recognizable names are what movies are based on these days, so here comes the Emily Post movie you didn't know you wanted.

Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. will base a romantic comedy off of Post's Etiquette, in which a female manners coach tries to turn a rough and tumble guy into a proper gentleman. You can only hope it turns out more My Fair Lady than The Ugly Truth, though given that the Emily Post Institute is cooperating with the project, I assume the movie won't go too hard on Miss Emily's hard and fast rules.

It's surprising we haven't had a real My Fair Lady project with the genders reversed already, and something like this sounds a lot more tolerable than, say, My Fair Laddy. Just leave Gerard Butler out of it, please-- he plays rough and tumble pretty well, but after The Ugly Truth, the idea of him in another romantic comedy just gives me hives.
