You know his name. Jason Bourne will soon make his way back to the silver screen in the aptly titled sequel, Jason Bourne. After a series of promotional stills and trailers, we knew that the movie would feature the sort of visceral action that we have come to expect from the spy franchise. However, a new video has just hit the web showcasing the sheer amount of carnage that Jason Bourne will have on display. Check it out below to see for yourself.
Take a quick moment to slow down your heartbeat before going any further. As you can see from the above video, Jason Bourne will have no shortage of chaos and action when it finally comes to theaters. We still know very little about the overarching narrative of the movie, but it’s clear that Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon want to emphasize variety with this one. There are bloody and brutal mano-a-mano fight scenes, motorcycle chases, foot chases, and gunfights. Essentially, everything you have come to expect from the amnesiac assassin is here, except the dial has been turned up to eleven.
The Bourne series deserves quite a bit of credit for the current state of the action genre. It didn’t pioneer gritty, well-orchestrated fight scenes by any measure, but it certain made them incredibly popular during the mid-2000s as the genre began to move towards a greater sense of "realism" when it came to action. Jason Bourne seems to have an acute understanding of how important it was to the genesis of the modern action film, and as such it looks to further increase the style and scale of the violence for a modern audience.
There's also a distinct sense of acknowledgement for the past. One of the coolest moments of the entire trailer involves the use of Moby’s "Extreme Ways" to cut the action together. The song punctuated all of Matt Damon’s Bourne movies, so it’s a nice nod to the continuity of the franchise for them to bring it back and remind us of the series’ tone and style. Retrace the series' steps with this awesome Bourne featurette:
Whoever cut this new trailer together deserves some special credit. Although the trailer puts a ton of high-quality action sequences on display, the preview doesn’t provide much in the way of story for the film, and doesn’t seem to feature anything that we would classify as a spoiler. Other action franchises, take note.
We will bring you all of the latest and greatest news related to Jason Bourne as it becomes available to us. Jason Bourne will kick, punch, shoot, and battle his way into theaters when his latest film hits theaters later this summer on July 29.
