National Treasure 3 Moving Forward With Prince Of Persia Writers

We haven’t heard anything about the promised next National Treasure sequel since way back in 2011, but it looks like things are finally moving forward. Coming Soon says that Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro have been hired to write the National Treasure 3 script.

They’ll work with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director John Turtletaub, who should be returning for the sequel. Benard and Miro seem to be Disney’s default blockbuster writers of choice at the moment. They’re behind the screenplays for both the upcoming Prince of Persia movie and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

So what will it be about? When National Treasure was still a hot topic a few years ago, Nic Cage hinted around that he hoped they’d leave America. A strange notion, I mean, the whole point of the franchise is to spend time digging around in the lost history of the United States. Too there was a rumor floating around that they’d go in search of Atlantis, but that just doesn’t make any sense.

The first National Treasure made nearly $350 million worldwide and National Treasure: Book of Secrets made more than $450 million in 2007. Though critics panned the second one it seems clear that the formula is still working. Don’t expect them to change it.
