Odd Film Alert: Gilliam and The Gorillaz?

I used to be an avid defender of Terry Gilliam—“Brothers Grimm wasn’t *that* bad,” I would declare to the naysayers. “He’s just not a mainstream director, but he has vision, man.”

And then, I saw Tideland. Those two brutal hours of my life, yanked away like hair being waxed from a metrosexual’s chest. When someone brings up his name to me now, silence fills the room. My lips are sealed.

So imagine my confusion when I clicked over to Film Ick, and heard that Gilliam might be directing a movie about the band The Gorillaz. You know, the one headlined by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, who had that catchy “I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad…I got sunshine, in a bag” song. The band consists of cartoon characters, so what type of movie would he be making? I don’t know, and more importantly, I’m not sure I care to know.

The Gorillaz have declared they are done making pop music, but Albarn hinted their movie deal may soon be a reality. Keep in mind, this may just be a silly rumor without half a leg to stand on. But just in case—consider yourself warned.
