You may have seen images of Ryan Gosling covered in tattoos and riding a motorcycle, but The Place Beyond the Pines is much more than tense chase scenes and that killer red jacket. Yes, Gosling's character is a bank robber and stunt motorcycle driver, but he's also a man who's recently discovered he has a child, and who enters a life of crime to help support his newborn son. And yes, Gosling's character encounters Bradley Cooper's, a cop, in a moment of violence, but it's not cheap movie violence that's dramatic and then immediately forgotten. In The Place Beyond the Pines every action has a consequence, and even a character like Gosling's Luke, living outside the law, will meet those consequences harshly.
And it's not like he wasn't warned. In a key moment in the film he's warned by a friend "If you ride like lightning, you're going to crash like thunder"-- a line that's now been immortalized in a new piece of art from the film you see at the top of this post. You can also download a version of the image to use as a Facebook cover; click below to find the high-res version.
