With fantasy epics like The Lord or the Rings and Game of Thrones to his credit, Sean Bean has forged a reputation for performances that carry a quiet warrior gravitas and dignified dramatic weight. So when we hear he's been cast in a new role, obviously we expect it to be a part that demands some serious swagger. Bean's role in Andy and Lana Wachowski's upcoming sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending promises just that.

Starring Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum and Eddie Redmayne, Jupiter Ascending is set in a universe where humans are considered basically the lowest form of life evolution-wise. Yet the extraterrestrial Queen of the Universe feels threatened by a lowly Russian maid (Kunis), and so hires a bounty hunter (Tatum) of a more evolved race to track her down and destroy her. However, once he meets her, this alien badass falls for her, and decides to do whatever he can to save her. Yes, it basically sounds like Snow White set in space, but now it seems this sci-fi drama has a dash of Star Wars as Deadline is describing Bean's character Stinger as "a Han Solo-type."

Does this mean he's an arrogant space pilot? A man who thrives at the edge of civilization? Or perhaps a world-weary wanderer and cynic, who at long last finds a cause worth fighting for? As secretive as the Wachowskis are being about this project, it's hard to say at this point. Regardless, casting Bean seems a great call as he manages to bring great depth to genre films. And of course, he's known for his death scenes. But we don't know if that special skill will come into play with Jupiter Ascending.
