Trailer For Blackthorn Asks: What If Butch Cassidy Made It Out Of San Vicente Alive?

Everyone who has seen Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid knows that it doesn't exactly end well for the titular heroes. The gun battle in San Vicente is one of the best ever put to film and while the movie ends with a freeze frame, the actual story and the sound all but 100% confirms that neither Paul Newman nor Robert Redford made it out alive. But what if of them actual did manage to get away and start a new life under an assumed name? Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce Blackthorn:

The film operates under the assumption that Butch Cassidy (Sam Shepard) actually survived the gun battle and escaped down to Bolivia. Living under the name James Blackthorn, he one day decides that he wants to return home and see his family before he dies, but his plan is derailed when he runs into a robber (Eduardo Noriega) who is on the lam. Having lost his horse, which had all of his supplies, Butch teams up with the young man and learns that he knows the location of a huge treasure. The movie, directed by Mateo Gil, co-stars Daniel Aguirre, Cristian Mercado, Stephen Rea and Dominique McElligot. The film will be released via Magnolia On-Demand September 2nd and look for it in theaters starting October 7th.
