Trailer: Oliver Stone's W.

Earlier today we posted a leaked, YouTube version of the first trailer for W. Now, thanks to Moviefone, we've posted the real thing below.

Oliver Stone’s W. has seemed incredibly weird ever since pages from the script leaked earlier this year, and it became apparent that Stone was aiming for a weird kind of comedy. Would his movie be a serious-minded take-down of our 43rd President, or That’s My Bush!-style comedy treating the President as a buffoon?

Now, with the first trailer leaked online, it seems the answer might be… both. There’s a sardonic quality to the minimal dialogue you hear, mostly from George H. Bush (James Cromwell), and the choice of music and editing (“What a Wonderful World” over shots of the entire Bush cabinet). But even Josh Brolin, in the lead role, seems to be going through the whole thing with a smirk on his face—arguably accurate to the man himself, but maybe indicative that we’ve got much more a satire here than we might have expected.

It’s still too soon to tell whether this movie will turn out a mess or a piece of genius, but the trailer is definitely worth a look regardless of your preconceived notions about the movie or the President himself.
