Tyler Perry Hunts Down A Psychotic Matthew Fox In First Trailer For Alex Cross

Earlier today we got our first look at the poster for the upcoming Rob Cohen film Alex Cross. Though the artwork itself wasn't terrible (just generic), what drew the eye was the absolutely horrible tagline, "Don't Ever Cross Alex Cross." While I'm sad to say that the same tagline has found its way into the first trailer as well, the rest of the preview surprisingly makes up for it. I didn't think I would be saying this before the end of the day, but Alex Cross is now on my radar.

Starring Tyler Perry as the titular detective, taking over the role previously played by Morgan Freeman in both Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider, the film is based on James Patterson's popular and successful series of novels and takes us back to Cross' earliest days working for the FBI. You can watch the first trailer below, which comes to us courtesy of Amazon.

While Perry's presence still gives me pause, it's Matthew Fox that steals this trailer. I'm always fascinated by actors who work to find the deepest, most animalistic part of themselves for a part like this and the character Fox is playing, named Picasso, looks like a true monster. Provided he doesn't go too over the top it could turn out to be something great.

Alex Cross co-stars Rachel Nichols, Giancarlo Espositio, Jean Reno, Edward Burns, and John C. McGinley and will be in theaters on October 19. Until then you can read more about it in our Blend Film Database.
