Witchblade Gets A Battlestar Director

When it comes to adapting and revamping one thing loved by geeks, who better to do it than someone who’s adapted and revamped something else loved by geeks? That’s what makes Battlestar Galactica director and producer Michael Rymer an ideal choice for Witchblade, an adaptation of the mid-90s comic book series that has developed a following worldwide. Variety made the official announcement, even though Bloody Disgusting had the story first.

Witchblade is, from what I can tell, a story about a single powerful sword that can only be used by one female each generation. As Bloody Disgusting puts it, “in 2009, a new warrior will step up and embrace her destiny as the chosen one, the pivotal character in the only war worth fighting.” Will Rymer get a free pass in adapting this material because he’s directed so many awesome female characters on Battlestar? I mean, let’s be honest—Starbuck seems totally capable of managing the Witchblade. So speak up, Witchblade fans, and let us know if this will be yet another graphic novel ruined, or something to look forward to.
