Welcome, everyone, to the Biggest Jerk on the Planet Award Nominations. I’m your host Will LeBlanc and today we’ve got a doozey to present for your consideration. Once upon a time a man was texting in a theater in Texas (more like TEXT-as, amirite?), where everything is bigger, including the douchebags, and when a woman half his size tapped him on the shoulder, he shouted, “Don’t ever touch me. I’m charging you with assault.” And he proceeded to storm out of the theater, called the police, and get himself treated for whiplash at the local hospital.
This is Dale Fout, a big ol’ Texan who used to play football 25 years ago and still makes sure to mention that when people ask him about anything. He describes himself as being a 220-pound “pretty big guy. I’m broad. I’m not fat. Used to play football.” And somehow he expects us to buy that the 136-pound Brenda Godwin tapping him on the shoulder caused him whiplash which needed to be treated by a physician? Assault?!
Please. What likely happened is this gigantic asshole was texting in a theater (which obviously wasn’t the Drafthouse) and someone decided to speak their mind. And because he’s such a wimpy crybaby, he was probably scared that it was a ghost or a gay coming at him from behind and in his frenzied panic he gave himself whiplash by spinning around too quickly.
Film Drunk uncovered a follow-up interview with Fout where he defends himself saying that management was never asked to call the police but because there was an “injury” (crybaby) they had to and that the physician approached him. All he was looking for was an apology. Backlash on the web has been obviously negative against him, since most people recognize when a person is a dickhead, regardless if they’re right or wrong (in this case wrong) about their situation. But beware, if you approach Dale in the wild and tell him what a huge, weepy baby he is, he claims he’ll “take care of business” and break your jaw. TEXAS!
Even if this guy did just want an apology, what did he even want an apology for? Being “shaken” by a 136-pound woman? If a 136-pound woman can shake a 220-pound ex-footballer around so violently that it causes neck trauma, I will pay money to see it, especially if Dale Fout is the guy getting beat up. There’s no excuse for these kinds of people to exist in the world. As far as I’m concerned, let’s herd everybody who acts like this to Texas, build a big fence around it, then let them secede. Texting problem solved.
In the end, young Brenda paid her $236 fine because it would simply have been more expensive to fight it. This was probably the better thing to do since if it went to trial, everyone there would tell Dale he’s a pansy and then they’d all have broken jaws.
