Jason Reitman’s Young Adult heads into theaters this weekend. If you read Katey’s review of the film then you know she had good things to say about it, particularly the relationship between Charlize Theron and Patton Oswalt’s characters Matt and Mavis. The clip we have to show you shows us the (re)introduction of the two characters when Mavis returns to town and meets Matt in a bar.
Young Adult follows an author who returns to her hometown with the intention of rekindling a romance with her high school flame. Last month, we showed you a clip that featured Theron and Oswalt’s characters meeting in a bar. The clip below, which was posted by iTunes (opens in new tab) takes the conversation further and gives us more of a taste of the dry humor in their dialogue.
Theron’s face when he makes the comment about the vampires is great. There’s so much attitude coming off of her and it blends perfectly with Oswalt’s candidness. As Katey put it in her review, "Mavis and Matt are capable of bringing out the worst and best in each other, calling each other on their shit while also propping up each others twisted ideas of themselves; in another film they could have fallen in unlikely love, but Young Adult skews far darker and more real."
