This is the trailer for Dirty Grandpa, which held its exclusive premiere on Buzzfeed’s Facebook page, and offers up the unexpected duo of Zac Efron and Robert De Niro in a textbook raunchy road trip comedy. Let’s ignore, temporarily, the fact that De Niro is considered to be one of the greatest actors of this (or any) generation. The man has also appeared in drivel, and isn’t opposed to dabbling in offensive comedies from time to time. This, still, feels like he’s reaching for a new low.

The plot is… nonexistent? De Niro’s a recent widower who convinces his uptight grandson (Efron) to accompany him on a road trip to South Florida because he and his wife made that trip every year, and he’s not going to let a little thing like her death stop him. This becomes an excuse for the duo to get involved in all sorts of debauchery, the types of things that come with drinking, drugging and putting poor Aubrey Plaza through uncomfortable sex jokes…

Dirty Grandpa comes to us from director Dan Mazer, who writes for Sacha Baron Cohen (Bruno, Borat) and has helmed episodes of Da Ali G Show. Some of the jokes in this trailer make it seen like Zac Efron is trying to continue his party streak from Neighbors, and I’m sure the audiences who helped turn that comedy into a hit will show up for Dirty Grandpa.

But Robert De Niro. What are you doing with your legacy? I get it. You get to film in South Florida. You get to play around with bikini-clad beauties. You get paid. Shouldn’t it be about more than that, though? Dirty Grandpa will be in theaters on January 22, 2016. Are you going to go?
