Though Berenice Marlohe fills a lot of the traditional duties of the Bond girl in next week's new James Bond film Skyfall-- wearing fabulous dresses, being handy with a gun, appealing greatly to 007-- she adds some interesting new layers to the character as well, carrying with her an element of darkness that fits the movie's more serious moments. A French model-turned-actress, Marlohe showed off a lot of chops in her biggest acting role to date-- and it's no surprise that one of the industry's most legendary directors has now come calling.

According to THR, Marlohe has joined the cast of Terrence Malick's next movie, currently shooting in Austin. She's far from the only cast member with experience in giant movies-- Michael Fassbender, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Natalie Portman are all on board already, meaning Marlohe is most definitely the new kid on the block. You might remember that another recent Bond girl has a history with Malick. Olga Kurylenko, who starred opposite Daniel Craig in Quantum of Solace, and teamed up with Malcik and Ben Affleck for the drama that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last month, To The Wonder. Kurylenko's role in that film was apparently to look mysterious and not speak very much, and it might be reasonable to expect the same for Marlohe too.

The details on her character, and the rest of the movie in general, are being kept under wraps from now, though stars Gosling and Mara have been spotted at various concerts around Austin for several months now-- that Malick enjoys shooting his movies for a long time. Marlohe will be shooting the film in Texas, somehow, while also traveling around the world to promote Skyfall. I suppose a work ethic like that is what gets a gal noticed in this industry.
