Batman V Superman Easter Egg May Hint At Batgirl's Ultimate Fate

Batgirl

Considering the jump start approach that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has taken to building the still under construction DC Cinematic Universe, any given character could be in any given state of development. Though we must admit, there's been one particular character we've been trying to figure out the status of in Zack Snyder's freshly created universe: Barbara Gordon, aka "Batgirl." Well, if we're reading the signs right, an easter egg from the Ultimate Edition may have just told us that Barbara is already a retired superhero, and an active information broker.

A pretty stealthy easter egg was found by Reddit, and reported via Comic Book Movie, in which Bruce Wayne's high-tech computer rig shows off a rather specific reference to the Batman / Batgirl canon. As you'll see in the screen cap shared later in this story, the "Oracle Network" is listed as linked to the Bat-Computer's current network. As DC Comics fans know, "Oracle" is Barbara Gordon's call sign for her post-paralyzation career as a hero, as she used her expert computer skills to aid everyone from Suicide Squad's Task Force X to Batman himself.

Now considering the fact that the "Oracle Network" is referenced by Zack Snyder, there is a chance that the director may have included this reference independent of Barbara Gordon's intended role in the current DC Cinematic Universe. Considering how fast and loose Snyder like to play with continuity, there's a possibility that this reference is a cheeky mention of a name DC fans recognize, and nothing more. However, should Oracle already be a full fledged hero in the DC Cinematic Universe, could we be seeing her referenced yet again in Suicide Squad?

Batgirl Evidence

Since we already know that The Joker and Batman both appear alongside Harley Quinn in David Ayer's entry into the DC Cinematic Universe, perhaps some of the Batman footage in Suicide Squad will see the Caped Crusader contacting Barbara Gordon in search of vital information. Maybe we'll even have a voice that hints at whomever will be cast in the role, kind of how Patrick Wilson's vocal cameo as the President of the United States in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice may have set up future appearances for the well known actor in future DC films, such as Aquaman.

Indeed, the only problem with easter eggs as vague as the "Oracle Network" listing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is the fact that they are so ambiguous, they dare you to try and figure them out. So if you'll excuse us, we're going to try and figure out this latest mystery of this latest DC Comics film, which you can now enjoy on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. And, of course, you can check out Suicide Squad on August 5th, just in case any new information comes to light.
