Will Thor’s Roommate Darryl Ever Interact With Other Avengers? Here’s What Taika Waititi Said

Thor Darryl

Over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become known for its widespread use of humor to offset action. Plenty of comic relief characters have been introduced -- from Happy Hogan, to Darcy Lewis -- but none have made quite as big of an impact on audiences as Thor's extremely average new roommate, Darryl. The awesome character premiered in a recent one-shot mockumentary to tease the events Thor: Ragnarok, but could he appear alongside other Avengers? Taika Waititi would apparently love to see that happen. He specifically said:

That would be a dream come true. I'd love to actually make a bunch of them.

During a recent Reddit AMA session, Taika Waititi opened up regarding the recent What Thor Was Doing During Captain America: Civil War mockumentary. The Thor: Ragnarok director admitted that he definitely has a desire to see Darryl Jacobson make a return, and he would even want to make more of those short sketches. Considering how much we enjoyed the first, we are definitely in no position to complain about that; bring it on, Mr. Waititi.

It would be phenomenal to see Darryl make a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point -- particularly if that means seeing him room with more members of The Avengers. While the Thor: Ragnarok documentary capitalized on Thor's fish out of water humor, other members of Earth's mightiest heroes could offer wildly different opportunities for comedy. We could watch Darryl try desperately not to piss off The Hulk, get freaked out whenever Vision enters a room without using a door, or simply suffer constant ridicule at the hands of Tony Stark. The possibilities are pretty much endless.

That's really the ultimate beauty of this concept: there's plenty of comedic material to be mined here. Darryl represents every member of the audience, and that's incredibly important for a franchise that has not spent much time focusing on average human beings who find themselves swept up in the action. We can't always see the story from a superhero point of view.

Check out the Thor/Darryl mockumentary below for a reminder of how absolutely hilarious that short film truly is:
