This Sunday is going to be a big day for fans of the Fast and Furious franchise. Like many other big 2017 blockbusters, the newly titled The Fate of the Furious will be debuting its first trailer. We will have that video for you on the site as soon as it goes live, but for now enjoy this trailer tease to whet your appetite!
This teaser trailer for The Fate of the Furious debuted on Facebook this morning, a few days after the preview was announced earlier this week. The launch is being held as a big event on social media, with a special event planned live that will start at 4:40PM PT / 7:40PM ET on Sunday (December 11th).
Let's break down all the explosions and action goodness that the quick 14 second teaser is showing us.
The clip opens first and foremost (after The Rock's one liner) with a race in Cuba. The Fate of the Furious made history for being the first blockbuster to film in the country, and it's clear that those behind the camera are especially proud of this. As such, we see an exciting race happening in Cuba, with the streets lines with Cuban flags and featuring background actors from the country.
From there, things start to get more explosive- literally. It's clear that The Fate of the Furious will have no shortage of explosions and guns, taking some of the focus away from the actual driving. The Fast and the Furious has become one of the biggest action franchises in Hollywood, and has taken quite a leap away from being about actual racing. In the trailer, we see Michelle Rodriguez's Letty packing some serious heat, and there are also a ton of big fancy guns shooting endless rounds of bullets.
There also appears to be an awesome sequence on snowmobiles sometime in the run of the film. This stark juxtaposition to Cuba's warm climate shows how far reaching The Fate of the Furious' production was. Dom and his crew have been known to travel the world in their adventures, and the next installment in the franchise will be no different.
Cipher looks pretty scary, as she's got all sorts of weaponry and armor behind her. Hopefully we'll be able to see Charlize Theron in an awesome fight sequence with one of the main heroes, preferably the always badass Letty.
There is one actor who is noticeably missing from the quick promo: Helen Mirren. News of Mirren's involvement came as a major shock to Fast and Furious fans, and many are eager to see how the legendary actress will work within the confines of the action franchise. Hopefully the full length trailer will feature this new character, as well as classics like Tyrese Gibson's Roman and Ludacris' Tej.
The full length trailer for The Fate of the Furious will be released this coming Sunday, and the film itself will hit theaters April 14th, 2017.
