When your father is Michael Jackson you've probably got celebrity infused in your DNA. As such, it's little surprise that the King of Pop's daughter is looking to make her feature film debut. Paris Jackson, who recently made her television debut on the series Star, is now ready to move to the big screen in a new film for Amazon.
Currently, the movie has no title but The Hollywood Reporter is calling it a "comedic thriller." The movie is directed by Nash Edgerton, and while Paris Jackson may be making her film debut, she's doing so among a fairly impressive cast. The film stars Charlize Theron, David Oyelowo, Amanda Seyfried, and Sharlto Copley among others.
In the plot, David Oyelowo plays a businessman who gets involved with drug dealers, mercenaries, and the FBI while traveling through Mexico. Paris Jackson's role in the film is not announced so it's unclear how much she'll be in the movie. Based on the brief description, and the extensive cast list, we'd guess that our lead character will be meeting lots of interesting people in his travels through Mexico, most of them probably not for very long.
Paris Jackson has essentially been in the public eye for her entire life, being the daughter of Michael Jackson, so it's not surprising that she has decided to make her living in the public eye, anything else might not have even been possible. She started her career in modeling but officially began acting with her recent appearance on the Lee Daniels series Star. If she wants to really learn how to act well she could have made much worse choices than this film to make her debut. There are several Academy Award nominees among the cast, so she's certainly got the right collection of teachers to learn from. Hopefully, her scenes will bring her into contact with at least a couple of these great actors.
At 19 years old Paris Jackson has her entire career ahead of her so she has plenty of time to build her acting resume. If her performance in this film is well received then we can expect more offers to follow. Acting was one area that Michael Jackson never really got involved in. His only significant film performance was in the 1978 film The Wiz which pre-dated his musical superstardom, so his daughter is in a good position to make her own way and potentially be a star, but without having to deal with the shadow of her father.
This new film certainly sounds like an interesting one so we'll be keeping an eye on it to see how it turns out. The film doesn't have a title, but it is expected to be released later this year.
