Cut Scenes From The First Deadpool Were Almost Used In Deadpool 2… Until They Were Cut
Now that Deadpool 2 has finally hit theaters, audiences have had a chance to see all of the violent hilarity for themselves. The film packs a ton of jokes into its relatively lean runtime, and as a result, some of the gags from the script and trailer don't actually appear in the movie. That's something that CinemaBlend's own Eric Eisenberg asked Deadpool 2 screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick during Deadpool 2's recent press day, and they opened up about some of the most interesting sequences cut from the original Deadpool that also didn't make the cut this time around. Reese explained:
So, it sounds like there was an attempt to put a suicide montage and a gag about the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants being "pure pornography" in Deadpool 1. Both gags ended up on the cutting room floor, so the screenwriting team behind the sequel tried to bring them back. Nevertheless, they once again got cut from the final cut of the movie -- though it is worth noting that the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants gag (a riff on a similar Cocoon gag from the first film) did make it into a recent trailer.
Of course, don't take our word for it. Check out Eric's interview with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, below, to hear what the Deadpool 2 screenwriters had to say about the jokes that didn't make it into the latest X-Men film.
Deadpool 2 continues the story started in 2016's Deadpool. It follows Wade Wilson as he attempts to protect a teenage mutant named Russell from the mysterious time-traveler known as Cable. The film arguably looks bigger and bolder than the one that preceded it, with a substantial portion of the narrative devoted to laying the groundwork for the introduction of X-Force. With all of those plates to spin, it kind of makes sense to see why some jokes couldn't make it.
