Subscribe To Watch Rocketman’s Taron Egerton Sing Tiny Dancer With The Real Elton John Updates
Now that Bohemian Rhapsody has walked away with four Oscar wins, music fans can dedicate their full attention to the next musical drama on the way, Rocketman, starring Taron Egerton as Elton John. Granted, there’s still three months to go until the movie’s release, but watching Egerton perform “Tiny Dancer” alongside John himself will surely help pass the time. Check it out!
This performance between the iconic rock singer/pianist/composer and the man playing him on the big screen happened last night during the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Awards viewing party. After a short preview of Rocketman was screened and those in attendance bid on the chance to go to the movie’s London premiere, Egerton suggested on stage that he sing “Tiny Dancer.” John, in the audience, volunteered to accompany him on piano, although as you see in the latter half of the video, he later joined in with his own vocals. And thus those at the auction, which raised more than $6.3 million, were treated to a particularly memorable duet of the 1972 song.
Considering that Elton John is currently traveling around the world for Farewell, Yellow Brick Road, his final concert tour, any opportunity to see him perform is great, but you have to admit, him performing alongside Taron Egerton is an especially unique event. With Rocketman arriving in May, perhaps the above video will help with people getting more jazzed about the upcoming movie, but at the very least, this is a pleasant performance to watch, and both Edgerton and John look like they were having a blast.
During the filming of Rocketman, Taron Egerton preferred not having Elton John around set given how intimidating it was for Egerton to play the musician, particularly when it came to the sex scenes. However, with principal photography having long since finished, presumably these two get along splendidly now, and I wonder if they might get together again in the future to perform another one of John’s hits. Egerton and John previously both appeared in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, although they didn’t share any screen time together.
Although Rocketman will be covering Elton John’s rise to fame and the struggles he dealt with along the way, Taron Egerton has previously said it is not a biopic, calling it instead a “fantasy musical” that uses John’s songs to express important beats during his life. Plus, John won’t be the only character singing in the movie. Speaking of other characters, Rocketman’s cast also includes Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard, Charlie Rowe, Gemma Jones, Kit Connor, Kamil Lemieszewski and Steven Mackintosh. Dexter Fletcher (who took over helming Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired) directed and Lee Hall wrote the script.
Rocketman will be released in theaters on May 31, so keep checking back with CinemaBlend for more updates. If you’re wondering what other movies are opening later this year, look through our 2019 release schedule.
