The birds are back in town… and by “town,” we mean a neighborhood theater!
The Angry Birds Movie 2 will bring the beloved birds from the popular game back to the big screen for a new adventure, with Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad reprising their roles to make families laugh. Every sequel expands on what we appreciated from the first film, and in Angry Birds Movie 2, we’re going to meet Silver (Rachel Bloom), Chuck’s sister. Here’s an exclusive clip, shared with us by Sony Pictures.
Silver, as you can tell in the clip, is a genius. She’s a skilled engineer, and a high achiever. And she’s already getting on Red’s last nerve, because he tends to like being the focus of everyone’s attention, and something tells us Silver’s going to steal some of his spotlight. That’s also a classic “love interest” twist, so it will be fun to see if The Angry Birds 2 goes in that direction.
Engineering, of course, also plays heavily into the point of the Angry Birds game, as the birds in question are always trying to come up with new ways to topple the constructions of the pigs. And in this sequel, the two “teams” have to figure out a way to work together – putting their natural differences aside – to combat a new threat in the form of new birds from an island of ice.
It’s all hinted at in the full trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 2, which you can watch for yourself right now:
Why an Angry Birds sequel, you might ask? Well, the first movie was a global hit, raking in an impressive $352 million at the box office during the summer of 2016. Families no doubt caught up with the movie on various home video and streaming outlets, meaning a bigger fan base could be coming back to theaters for additional laughs in the sequel.
Also, I’m not sure if you have noticed this yet, but family movies are crushing at the box office in 2019. The Lion King recently raced past the $1 billion mark in just under 20 days. Movies like Toy Story 4 and Aladdin are packing them in. Families are looking for a reason to go back to the theater nowadays, and The Angry Birds Movie 2 looks like the next reason to go!
Look for The Angry Birds Movie 2 when it bounces into theaters on August 14, giving kids one last “vacation” at the multiplex before school gets underway.
